April 21, 2025 – Equipment operators and environmental compliance workers from across Wyoming and the west are again convening in Carbon County to build the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project.
Site conditions were deemed suitable for 2025 starting on April 14. Construction work continues this year on building more development infrastructure on the cattle ranch hosting the CCSM Project.
Approximately 600 turbines ultimately are planned to provide an estimated 3,550 MW of power generation capacity, which would make the CCSM Project the largest power plant in Wyoming. As of the end of 2023, Wyoming had nearly 10,200 MW of installed power plant capacity from all technologies, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
For independent developer Power Company of Wyoming LLC, environmental compliance continues to be a priority as construction advances. For example, detailed mapping and constant monitoring assures that construction only occurs in authorized areas, while reclamation specialists make sure that disturbed land is revegetated and protected. The wind project surface disturbance will be less than 1% of the ranch acreage.
PCW plans to pair the CCSM Project’s unparalleled wind energy resource with onsite natural gas generation – currently under development – to provide the firm, reliable power supply that growing domestic electricity markets demand.
