March 1, 2011—Power Company of Wyoming and the strength of Wyoming's wind were featured in a recent Casper Star-Tribune article. For the month of January, the average wind speed clocked in at 42 mph.
As noted in the article, once the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project is on line the wind farm will generate 2,000-3,000 megawatts of electricity. While the turbine wind farm will span an area of about 154 square miles, total permanent land disturbance will be well under 5 percent because of the small footprint of each turbine.
